Consultant Refining and Pricing Expert
Ian is an expert in petroleum refining and commodity pricing disputes and is based in our London office.
Ian commenced working with MTD in 1996. Ian has a PhD in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Birmingham. Ian started his career working for Esso Petroleum Co as a research scientist, before working in several different roles within Esso, including as a marketing economist, a refinery planning supervisor, in oil loss co-ordination and supply operations. Ian then worked for J. Aron & Company, the trading division of Goldman Sachs, as Trading Operations director where created, developed and led an energy operations group to support the London training team. During his time with J Aron, Ian developed and managed the operations control of a refinery in Rotterdam and managed the training operations for a diverse range of petroleum and soft commodities.
Since commencing work with MTD, Ian has been involved in over one hundred oil industry disputes involving trading and supply of crude oil and refined products and provided opinion on refining economics and operations. This has included providing expert opinion concerning quantum of damages and appearing in court and arbitration as an expert witness on such trading disputes.
