Consultant Materials Scientist
Isabel James works in the field of materials science and is based in the Cardiff office.
Isabel is a Materials Scientist with B.A. and MSci (1st Class) degrees in Materials Science and Metallurgy from the University of Cambridge. During this time, she was involved in a research project characterising a new titanium alloy analysing its high temperature fatigue properties. In doing so she gained practical experience in heat treatments, mechanical testing, and electron microscopy.
Following graduation, Isabel worked as a Materials Engineer in the oil and gas sector for a year where she was involved with performing a root cause analysis of a pipeline failure, conducting materials testing, and quality control.
Since joining MTD, in June 2024, she has worked on projects in a range of industries, performing failure investigations and condition assessments involving corrosion, fatigue, fracture, and coating failures. In addition, she has assisted with post-incident operations of container ship fires.
