Consultant Chemist

Shyamini is a Consultant Chemist based in our Cardiff office.

Shyamini’s career in the oil and petrochemical industry commenced with a four-month Industrial Training Programme at DNV Petroleum Services, facilitated by Singapore Polytechnic, where Shyamini was studying for a Diploma in Chemical Process Technology (Industrial Chemistry). After graduating from Singapore Polytechnic in 2003, Shyamini joined a leading bunker fuel testing laboratory in Singapore, where she worked as an assistant Laboratory Technician, then a Laboratory technician and Customer Service Executive until July 2006, prior to leaving for the UK to continue her Studies.

Shyamini earned a BSc in Chemistry from Cardiff University in June 2009. In January 2010, she joined MTD as a Laboratory Analyst, working across both the Analytical & Environmental Section and the Oil & Petrochemical Section within the MTD’s Analysis & Testing department. Whilst working at MTD, Shyamini progressed from laboratory analyst to senior scientist and laboratory manager and also attained an MSc in Management from Leicester University. Shyamini has over 20 years of hands-on experience in analytical chemistry and laboratory operations. Her expertise spans oil and petrochemical testing, environmental analysis and advanced instrumentation including GC-MS, FTIR, DSC, and SEM-EDX.

Shyamini joined MTD’s consultancy department as a consultant chemist in January 2025 and has since been involved in the investigation of numerous petroleum and petrochemical quality disputes, including matters involving bunker fuel quality, which has included attending onboard Vessels, at terminals and laboratories in the UK and Europe.
