Ali Saad is a Consultant Scientist based in our Cardiff office.
Ali is an experienced analytical scientist, having held numerous and diverse roles across the chemical industry. He holds a BSc degree in Chemistry with Forensic Analysis from the University of Reading, and an MSc in Forensic Analysis from Kingston University. He is a Chartered Chemist and a Chartered Scientist.
Ali began his career in Australia as an Analytical Chemist working for a major lubricant manufacturer, conducting wet chemistry and physical testing of lubricating oils, fuel oils and industrial greases. Upon returning to the UK, he worked for a global analytical services company, carrying out crude oil compatibility testing and using microscopy to determine asphaltene flocculation points. He proceeded to work as a Reservoir Engineer for a major oil exploration company in their EOR (Enhancing Oil Recovery) division, operating laboratory scale rigs to characterise core samples for porosity, permeability and flow properties.
In recent years, Ali has worked as a Senior Analytical Chemist for a polymer and speciality chemicals manufacturer. In this role he carried out non-routine analysis and method development, with an expertise in liquid and gas chromatography with mass spectrometry, thermal analysis and various spectroscopic methods. He has also worked within the non-destructive testing (NDT) sector as an R&D Chemist and Regulatory Specialist, with detailed knowledge in the CLP and REACH regulations.
Ali joined MTD at the start of 2021 as a Consultant Scientist, specialising in polymers and coatings. He has since led a number of failure investigations pertaining to industrial, marine and automotive coatings, coated pipelines, flexible risers, adhesive tapes and insulation materials.
